In June we called battery control "the next horizon." It's now live. Since mid-October, Warden has been running a real household battery in Auckland every night.
How it works
Warden is an approved developer on Sigenergy's platform. Add your battery's System ID in the Warden dashboard and Sigenergy emails you to confirm. Click the link and you're connected. There's no gateway box and no electrician.
| Mode | What Warden does |
|---|---|
| Time of use | Charges in your cheap hours, holds full until the window ends, then hands back to self-consumption. |
| Spot price | Charges or holds back based on the wholesale price at your node, using thresholds you set. |
A real night
On a heavy, overcast day, one customer's 27 kWh battery was down to its 20% reserve by 8pm. At 9pm Warden charged it at 10 kW, and it was full by 11:30pm. Warden then held it full, so the house ran on cheap grid power overnight. At 7am Warden released it, with the battery at 100%. That took three instructions all night.
Built to step back
- Never blind. If Warden hasn't had a reading in 15 minutes, it stops sending instructions and the battery runs as normal.
- Instructions expire. Each one lasts 30 minutes. If Warden goes quiet, the battery returns to normal on its own.
- Your settings win. The reserve and grid limits you've set in the Sigenergy app are enforced by the battery itself.
What's next
Solar-aware charging that leaves room for tomorrow's sun, spot mode that plans around price forecasts, and more battery brands.
