Privacy Policy
Last updated 19 June 2026
This policy explains what information Warden collects when you use our website, mobile app,
or connected hardware, and how that information is used. Warden is operated from New Zealand
and serves customers in New Zealand and Australia.
What we collect
We collect the following information when you create an account or use Warden's services:
- Account information — your username, email address, and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
- Electricity connection details — your ICP number (NZ) or network region (AU). For NZ accounts, we look up this number against the public ICP registry to determine the correct wholesale pricing node — we do not store the resulting address.
- Alert preferences — the price thresholds you set for "cheap" and "spike" alerts, and your chosen notification channels.
- Device data — if you connect a PowerWarden device, we store its telemetry (on/off state, power draw, schedule) so you can monitor and control it. This data is tied to your account but is about your equipment, not about you personally.
- Push notification tokens — if you install the Warden mobile app and enable notifications, we store a device token (provided by Apple or Google via Expo's push service) so we can deliver price alerts to your phone. This token cannot be used to identify you outside of Warden.
- Payment information — if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed entirely by Stripe. Warden does not see or store your card details.
What we don't collect
Wholesale electricity prices, market forecasts, and grid data (sourced from WITS, the Electricity
Authority, and AEMO) are public market information, not personal data. Browsing analytics are
not collected beyond standard server logs.
How we use your information
- To show you accurate, location-specific electricity prices and alerts.
- To deliver notifications via email, push notification, or ntfy, according to your preferences.
- To operate and bill your subscription, via Stripe.
- To provide customer support if you contact us.
We do not sell your information to third parties, and we do not use your data for advertising.
Third parties we rely on
- Stripe — payment processing for paid subscriptions.
- Expo / Apple / Google — delivery of push notifications to the Warden mobile app.
- WITS, Electricity Authority, AEMO — sources of public wholesale electricity price data.
Data retention
We retain your account and preference data for as long as your account is active. If you close
your account, your personal information is deleted within 30 days, except where we are required
to retain billing records for tax purposes.
Your rights
You can access, correct, or delete your personal information at any time by contacting us, or by
using the account settings in the Warden app or dashboard. NZ residents have rights under the
Privacy Act 2020; Australian residents have rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
